Someone asked me: “How to get traffic on my website for free?” Well in this blog post, we’ll dive into some free and easy ways to get more people to see your website without paying an arm, leg, and 1st born!
Understanding the Basics
I think we should cover the basics first to give you a better understanding of how things work. Let’s start with defining website traffic.
1. Website Traffic: Website traffic is the total amount of people visiting your site.
The biggest thing to learn about website traffic is that it is not so much about quantity; it’s more about quality.
A quality visitor is someone who is visiting your site and has a sincere interest in the content that you have on that page.
The last thing you need is a bunch of random people visiting your site. The goal is targeted traffic.
2. Content Quality: When I say high-quality content what I really mean is content that keeps whoever is consuming your content engaged and entertained.
Are your articles well thought out and planned making them easy to read? Are your videos edited properly to keep the viewer interested?
3. Keyword Research: This is probably my favorite and I feel the most important because it uses keywords that your target audience is searching for.
This ultimately helps search engines understand your content and help people in your niche find your content.
For example, if you were to have a rose garden website. Some keywords in your niche may include:
- pink roses
- where can I buy pink roses
- do pink roses last longer than red roses
- How can I grow my own rose bush
Prepare to be amazed when you find out what people from around the world are searching for!
4. Meta Tags: You can look at meta tags like your website’s 1st impression in search results. It gives a short preview of what that specific page is about.
Just as you optimize your website your website for keywords you should also optimize your meta tags… keywords and meta tags go hand in hand!
5. Internal Linking: This is what makes your website easier to navigate.
Instead of letting users search your site for specific info, link out to it instead. Makes for a user-friendly website.
6. Site Speed: The last thing you want is a slow website. A slow-loading website is a big reason visitors exit websites.
People are impatient.. they want information now! If you have a great answer to a question but your site loads slowly people will leave!
Be sure you are doing everything you can to ensure your website loads quickly for high search engine rankings and an improved user experience.
How to Get Traffic on My Website for Free
You have to have some type of way to cater to and attract your target audience. You have to create content. Here I discuss some popular content creation strategies that’ll get you traffic fast!
1. Blogging: Create a weblog or a blog. When you are consistently publishing blog articles this gives people more reasons to visit your website.
But blogging without doing keyword research is like shooting in the dark and hoping that you hit something.
Doing keyword research allows you to create blog posts that target a keyword that you know for a fact has high traffic and little competition.
This is free traffic. You can’t beat it. All because you chose to change up the wording of your article title. Different title, same article, more traffic.
2. Guest Posting: I bet you didn’t know that you can write articles for other websites that are in your niche and still get traffic to your website!
All you do is create a blog post and have that website post it while linking back to your website.
This is called backlinking and can bring new audiences your way.
3. Infographics: Everybody loves visuals and this is why infographics were created!
Create attention-grabbing infographics that are niche-related and stuffed with facts and statistics.
This is a genius way of educating people by coming across as passive and social vs. educational.
4. Video Content: Videos can transform your entire online presence. When you create videos it keeps people entertained far better than written content or photos.
Aim at creating informative and entertaining video content. Just like a good TV show, a video that has valuable information is naturally alluring.
One trick that I have learned to make a more entertaining video is learning the art of video editing!
This can take regular unedited footage and turn it into exceptional viral content.
5. Social Media Sharing: Hopefully you have been building a niche-related following because after creating such great content you’re going to want to show the world!
Sharing your website content on social platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter is another free way to get your message out there and new website visitors.
Off-Page SEO Techniques
Did you know there are things you can do outside of your website that can still bring traffic to your website? Let’s go in…
1. Backlinks: As I mentioned earlier, when guest posting, backlinking can boost your site’s authority by getting links from a more authoritative site back to yours.
It’s like getting a nod of approval from the cool kids in school saying:
“Hey I like him, he’s cool for this.”
2. Social Bookmarking: Social bookmarking is a neat strategy that broadens your content’s reach.
Try sharing your content on platforms like Reddit, Pinterest, and StumbleUpon.
By sharing on these platforms, you open the door to new audiences and potential traffic influx without spending a nickel.
3. Online Communities: Get involved with online forums and groups within your target niche.
By doing this it gives you a chance to flex your expertise and leave relevant links to content on your website.
4. Influencer Outreach: Competition isn’t competition in this case. Collaborate with influencers who are also in your niche.
Create some content with them. This one act can bring in tons of traffic seemingly out of nowhere!
Local SEO Strategies
If you have a local business you should optimize for local search rankings. Create a “My Business” profile in Google and use local keywords. This helps bring more relevant traffic.
Monitoring and Analysis
To see how well your website is performing you will need to monitor data and statistics so that you can analyze what the data is telling you.
We achieve this by setting up Google Analytics which provides necessary data about your site and gives very good insight as to what changes should be made.
You can find out the # of website visitors, how long people on average stay on your website, what pages people visited, average video view time, and more!
It is a goldmine of insights.
Conclusion
So, there you have it – a bunch of strategies to increase your website traffic for free. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
It takes time and consistency to see results. Start implementing these strategies today, and you’ll be on your way to more traffic in no time!
